Living Life In The Front Row

Can you believe we are nearing the end of yet another year? Where has it gone? About a week or so ago, I was taken aback when a peer asked me to reflect on 2017 and identify 3 things (whether it be good or bad) that stuck out in my mind. Surprisingly, I came up with nothing except for my recent trip to Ireland. I suppose on one hand I could be relieved that my year was so inconsequential and that life remained status-quo. But on the other hand, I realized that I’m allowing life to just pass me by and that I am not taking full advantage of this gift I’ve been given. After all, we only get one shot at it, right?

So I ask you a similar question: Are you living life in the front row or are you taking a back seat? Are you allowing fears (fears of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of not being/doing enough, and on and on and on) get in the way of creating a meaningful and purposeful life? If so, join me in putting those fears aside and start living life in the front row.   Listed below are just a few tips you can do EACH DAY to help get you there:

1-Create purpose or meaning in your life. This doesn’t have to be anything big or drastic (although it certainly can be. Chase after those dreams!). For example, instead of just simply surviving the workday, find purpose in what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.  Or, make time to connect with loved ones and  express your love and appreciation towards them. This last week I have written letters to people and honestly it has felt like Christmas envisioning the surprise on their face when they open up their mailbox and see a personal letter written just for them. Lastly, find a cause that is meaningful to you and find ways to serve.

2- Set goals that scare the crap out of you-this could be anything! Travel to a new place, quit your job and start your own business, create a masterpiece, or write a book! Listen to what your heart is telling you and then chase after it. Be sure to write it down, set a time-line, and then share with a friend (trust me, this makes it A LOT more real).

3. Be present. In this day of age, there are a million (and one) things happening at once and it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Be mindful of what you are doing and give it 100% of your attention. Whether you are working on a project or sitting with a friend, try to ignore the texts and FB notifications. It will all still be there when you get finished. Chances are, you’ll be more fulfilled when your mind isn’t being pulled in 10 different directions, your connections will be stronger and you’ll get a lot more accomplished.

4-Last but not least, celebrate your successes, however big or small. We all deserve to be celebrated and life is much more enjoyable when we make time for fun!

I look forward to what 2018 has to offer and I am excited about making it my best year yet. I hope you too will make time and effort to live in the front row and to create a more meaningful and purposeful year.

Thank you for taking time to “listen” to some of my thoughts. I recognize that for some of you it has been quite some time since we have connected but I hope that will change. I would love to hear back from you and get an update on how life is going for you and/or how you plan to make this next year even better. I will be emailing you about 2-3 times per month but if you’d rather not receive them, no hard feelings of course! Just let me know and I will take you off my list. In the meantime, feel free to pass on to anyone else you think may love this message.

Until then,
